The Ventnor Community Orchard project is developing well. This is a new initiative for Ventnor organised by Ventnor Town Council with the help of Hampshire and Isle of Wight Wildlife Trust.
The site at the top of Steephill Down Road has been cleared, and the holes were dug at the weekend by Community Payback ready for planting this week.
There will be a special tree planting ceremony during the week for St Francis Catholic and Church of England Primary Academy who have been involved with the planning of the orchard.
We are excited to have the School Council coming to the site to plant a few trees. They have some excellent ideas and plan to use the orchard for learning and fun activities.
Tree planting event: All welcome
So far, we have chosen some apple trees, a crab apple and a Victoria Plum to plant based on the requests from local residents and school children.
The second tree planting event will be this Saturday (1st Feb) at 9.30am. Come and meet the Mayor, local councillors and staff at the Orchard. If you would like to help with the planting, please wear suitable clothing and footwear.
Share your ideas
Come and see the site for yourselves and help plan the next steps.
More trees will be planted in the near future, and we would like your ideas for what to choose.
Why not sponsor a tree?
If you would like to sponsor a tree, please get in touch please email [email protected].
We would also appreciate your input for other ideas to enhance the site such as seating areas, bird and squirrel feeders, art and sculptures etc.
We look forward to seeing you on Saturday.
