Ryde Inshore Rescue were paged by Solent Coastguard to go to the assistance of a 40 foot Bavaria yacht which had ran aground on Ryde sands on Tuesday afternoon.
It soon became apparent to the crew of Ryde Rescue 1, that the vessel had also suffered engine failure and damaged rigging.
The yacht had sailed down from Scarborough and was trying to reach Cowes. Ryde Rescue 1 took the vessel under tow into Cowes Harbour.
Second call-out
The lifeboat returned to station, and the crew had just finished washing down, when another distress call was received, this time to go and investigate reports of a capsized dingy with persons in the water near Stokes Bay.
Ryde Rescue 1 was re-launched and was soon alongside the casualty vessel. The dinghy was righted and the loan sailor managed to sail back to shore under escort from the lifeboat.
