Two new names look set to open inside the refurbished Sports Direct store in Newport.
Plans have been unveiled to get rid of the vacant stores next to Newport Bus Station.
At the moment, only three of the five retail units in the South Street retail building are occupied after the closure of Ponden Mill and Peacocks.
The big gap is currently partly occupied by Sports Direct who have closed their regular shop, on the first floor of the building, for refurbishment.
Two new occupants
Now plans have been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council revealing two new occupants of the enlarged Sports Direct store which would then extend as far as New Look. H&M also has a store in the block.
The new look Sports Direct store will be on two floors and sales areas will be dedicated to clothing shop USC and Evans Cycles.
Neither of the two stores currently have stores on the Island.
Change to shop fronts
An application to the council is asking to alter the shop fronts and display of advertisements — as logos of sports brands Nike and Adidas will make up part of the look.
As part of the refurbishment, it is proposed the current entrance to Sports Direct, on South Street, will be replaced with some windows, using an entrance further down to access the escalators and merchandise.
