Sandown and Lake U13’s 5
East Cowes Vics U13’s 4
This was a contest between the two top sides from last season and Sandown took the initiative early on with two missed chances. Vics were given a free kick outside the penalty area for the Striker to hit the ball high into the top left corner of the goal leaving Sandown Goalkeeper Liam Suckling very little chance of saving it.
Vics second goal came from very similar circumstances, Suckling had asked for four in the wall but only two Sandown players responded and with this done the kicker hit high past the wall to leave Suckling no chance once again to get the ball.
After the restart Sandown put the pressure on Vics and Aedan Coode came into his own with some awesome runs down the wing to twice cross the ball to Antony Kettel for two quick goals. Both goals were exceptional as Kettel held his nerve to slot in past the goalkeeper.
It was then a game of midfield players with Vics coming through slightly stronger for a ball to be crossed and headed into the goal after Sandown’s defence failed to pick the Vics striker up.
Sandown then came back at Vics and after some pressure in Vics penalty area one of the Vics defenders handled the ball and a penalty was awarded against them. Jack Youngson, fresh from winning Sandown’s inaugural penalty shoot out, stepped up to slot the ball high into the right hand corner of the net to equalize for Sandown.
Just before half time Vics attacked and some sloppy defending by Sandown left a Vics player unmarked in the box but kept on side was able to head home a great cross from Vics.
Half time score 3-4.
After a fantastic team talk at halftime by Jamie Mcinnes the Sandown team were inspired to command the second half as they were told they could win this match by winning the second half.
After persistent pressure by Sandown the Vics defence were broken down for Kettel to score his third goal of the match on 56th minute of the game.
Sandown kept the pressure up and Vics were played out of the game and then Harry Woodward from midfield kicked the ball high over the Vics defence to find Josh Gulseven who slotted his first goal of the season past the Vics goalkeeper to take the lead 5-4.
Sandown held their nerve but there was extreme pressure in Midfield from Vics but to no avail.
Final score Sandown and Lake 5 East Cowes Vics 4.
Sandown man of the match: Aedan Coode for setting up three of the goals and having a commanding performance on the wing.
