Regular readers will remember we reported at the beginning of last month, the anger of residents in St Lawrence at a delegated decision being made about the future of the stretch of road between Ventnor and Niton, Undercliff Drive.
The decision was due to be made that week, but subsequently delayed to allow the St Lawrence Homeowners Group and Ventnor West county councillor, Susan Scoccia, to make representations.
Option C to go ahead
A Delegated Decision notice has been issued today.
It was decided by Edward Giles, Cabinet member responsible, to continue the existing maintenance regime and divert traffic inland if the road fails (option c).
Residents need to fund drainage feasibility work
The report claims that the residents requested that Option C be adopted, with the addition of the drilling of a test hole to ascertain the feasibility of drainage works at a cost of £5,000.
Edwards Giles, who attended the meeting where representations were heard, told residents that the council had no current means of financing the drilling, although drainage works could still possibly be conducted if the residents were to finance the operation.
