Island Roads is planning highway improvement work for two busy East Wight roads next month.
The highways PFI company is looking to resurface sections of Upper Green Road, St Helens, over four working days from February 3 and sections of Embankment Road over ten days from February 24.
Deeper excavations and road reconstruction
The projects are part of an extensive programme of work to upgrade sections of the carriageway. The work will involve deeper excavations and road reconstruction ahead of resurfacing meaning full road closures will be required at each location for safety reasons and to ensure the work can be completed as soon as possible.
The section of Upper Green Road to be improved is that between Station Road and Mill Road. The Embankment Road upgrade will be between The Crab Shack and Latimer Road.
While the roads will be closed as through routes, Island Roads will try to maintain vehicular access to properties as long as it is safe to do so.
24-hour road closures will be necessary
An Island Roads spokesperson said,
“Given that the deeper nature of the excavations will mean full 24-hour road closures will be necessary, some degree of inconvenience will be unavoidable as traffic will need to be diverted locally during work.
“But fixing the underlying issues that have led to surface deterioration should mean less maintenance will be required in the future.
“Residents can be assured that we will be working hard to complete the work as soon as possible, ahead of schedule if we possibly can, and we would like to thank residents in advance for their co-operation and understanding.”
Letters will be sent to affected residents ahead of work starting to explain more about the projects.
The diversion routes in place during work are as follows:
Upper Green Road, St Helens (via Ryde & Nettlestone)
Carpenters Road – Beaper Shute – Brading Road – Marlborough Road – Appley Road – Calthorpe Road – Pondwell Hill – Nettlestone Hill – Nettlestone Green – Eddington Road
Embankment Road, Bembridge (via Brading and St Helens)
Kings Road – High Street – Forelands Road – Steyne Road – Sandown Road – Bembridge Road – Marshcombe Shute – New Road – High Street – Rowborough Lane – Carpenters Road – Station Road
