The world’s largest aircraft carrier has arrived in the Solent this afternoon.
Named after the 38th President of the United States, the USS Gerald R Ford is nuclear powered, weighing in at close to 100,000 tonnes.
The enormous vessel cost US$12.8 billion to build and is too large to enter Portsmouth Harbour so is currently sitting in the C-Anchorage in Stokes Bay off Gosport.
Passengers on the Wightlink-Portsmouth ferry will be able to see the carrier, which will be in the Solent for five days.
There is a 150-metre exclusion zone around the vessel, but Solent Cruises are offering residents a chance to see the aircraft carrier closer than from the Island.
