Papers released for a Licensing Committee hearing this week reveal that V-Dub, the festival for VW enthusiasts could be on the move.
Previously held at the County Ground in Northwood, and latterly at Afton Farm out in the West Wight, this year organisers of the festival aim to bring it closer to the heart of the Isle of Wight.
The new location of the event, which was first held on the Island in 2011, is South Fairlee Farm, Fairlee Road, Newport.
New date
As well as a change to the location, the organisers (from the Island) bring it forward in the festival calender to 23rd – 27th July – the first week of the school summer holidays.
It had traditionally been held in August at the same time as the Garlic Festival and Ventnor Fringe Festival.
Great small festival
This small festival (under 5,000 capacity) offers live music, DJs, a children’s zone, trading area, car show area for all those who bring along their loved-VWs, paddock and skate ramp area. The site opens to campers from Sunday 19, but the main event is only planned to take place between 23 and 26 July 2015.
Recommended for refusal
The report states the officers are recommending the application be refused.
Members should determine the application in accordance with section 18 of the Licensing Act 2003 and The Licensing Act (Hearings) Regulations 2005. It is the view of the Licensing Section that based upon the information available at the time of producing this report, Option 3 is appropriate
The Newport Parish Council believe the location for the event is not suitable.
The Licensing sub-Committee hearing for a premises licence takes place at County Hall on Thursday 5 March at 10am.
