Thanks to Louis for sharing news of the University of the Third Age. In his own words. Ed
Is the Isle of Wight unique in having in its community a group which is 400 strong, willing to learn, and is led by 28 dedicated souls?
Such is the style of the IW University of the Third Age as its 28 group leaders have their Annual Meeting at the the Wootton Bridge Community Centre (Friday 18th May 10.30am) to exchange their experiences and review their progress.
Huge variety of subjects
IWU3A thrives on volunteer tutors for each subject, many of which are presented in private homes; such diverse subjects as French conversation, Computer skills and Calligraphy accompany more energetic pursuits like Folk Dancing and Walking, while three book reading groups and four history groups study their subjects closely at various venues around the Island.
For those with a more intellectual bent there is also a group studying mathematics, another arranges theatre visits and there are groups for Mah Jong and Whist, even just ‘coffee and a chat’, every one led by one of the volunteer tutors.
The list is limited only by people willing to share their expertise with others.
IWU3A is about to enter its 20th Year and welcomes new students (and Tutors) from the 50 plus age group.
