The Vectis Corps of Drums Marching Band recently held their annual presentation evening.
A few highlights of the year include participating in carnivals in Swanage and Shaftesbury, being awarded the Spirit of the Carnival award by Newport Carnival and working and playing with the Band of the Grenadier Guards at Wellington Barracks in London.
Certificates of recognition
Every member was given a certificate of recognition for their service to the band and there were awards presented to members of each section and long service awards.
There were two recipients of the Drum Section award this year, for their support and dedication to the section and the band. The winners were Matt Cheverton and Andrew Hallam.
The cymbal section award was presented to Amy-Louise Woodford for her progress and enthusiasm learning the cymbals since joining the band and she has now progressed and is learning the clarinet.
More awards
For the tuned percussion (glockenspiel) section the award was presented to Grace Woods for the effort and progression she has made.
The Wind Section award was presented to Karen Knight for her support and dedication to the wind section and to the band.
There was also the Bandmaster award which was presented to Jennie Thompson, a community award which was Roger Perolls and the Royal British Legion (Newport and Carisbrooke Branch) award which was presented to Daniel Lawn.
Drum Majors award
Introduced this year was the Drum Majors award which was presented to Liam Downer. Five, ten and twenty years medals and awards were presented to some members for their service to the band.
After the awards, everyone enjoyed a disco and a buffet
As the band enter its 32nd year, they will be back out and about participating in events across the Island.
