Vectis Oils funding boost for East Cowes Youth Football Club

Aspiring sports stars from East Cowes Youth Football Club’s under-15s have been kitted out for the new season, thanks to a generous donation from local heating oil supplier, Vectis Oils.

The club, based at Queensgate School on Beatrice Avenue, welcomes football players of all abilities and ages for fun training sessions and Sunday morning competitive matches.

After a successful 2012/13 season – finishing sixth in their league and scoring 74 goals – the under-15s were in desperate need of new kits and tracksuits, after outgrowing their old ones.

Sports Bursary from Vectis Oils
Vectis Oils, on Whippingham Road on East Cowes, donated £450 to the team, after parent volunteer, Clare Griffin, applied to the company for funding.

The donation was made as part of the company’s Sports Bursary scheme which aims to support sports groups across the Isle of Wight.

Clare said:

“We are so grateful for the donation, which has helped us kit the boys out properly for the new season. Although we’re essentially a football team, we aim to provide much more than that – we have a strong sense of discipline and high expectations of behaviour.

“The boys come from a variety of backgrounds and they’ve formed a strong bond as a team. The level of respect they show to each other, and the adults who help to run the team, is a credit to them and the new kits are the icing on the cake.”

Mike Buy, regional manager at Vectis Oils, said:

“The East Cowes Youth under-15s are a real asset to the Isle of Wight, as the team encourages local residents to get involved in both sport and their community. The parents work tirelessly to improve youth discipline through football and this group is a shining example of teamwork.

“As a longstanding supplier to the Island, Vectis Oils launched this bursary scheme to support sports groups and give something back to the community we serve.”
