We went along to the meeting last month and found it highly informative and of great interest.
We were pretty conspicuous as the youngest members there, which frankly did concern us.
Not for the reasons you might think, but because there is a wealth of knowledge being shared at these meetings and once the current membership pass on, it makes you wonder who’ll be there to keep the tradition going?
The subject of the talk at this month’s meeting is “Operation PLUTO” by local film-maker, Melvyn Dennett.
PLUTO is an acronym for ‘PipeLine Under The Ocean’ which was used to pump petrol across the Channel from Shanklin to the forces invading Normandy in 1944.
Starts at 7.30 this Friday and unless you’re a member of Ventnor Historical Society it’ll cost you £1 to get in.
