I’d like to say a very big thank you to Kevin Basham from the Ventnor Angling and Social Club for sending through the following info about the competition that we highlighted a couple of weeks ago – lots of other things got in the way last week and I forgot to post this up. Sorry abot that Kev, but better late than never.
Anglers raised £1000 for two island schools in the Ventnor angling and social club 22-hour open competition last weekend. Despite the appalling weather 135 signed on for the event in aid of St Georges and Medina House schools for children with special needs.
This large amount of money was due to the many sponsors such as Jamie Currie plumbing who donated the £300 first prize won by Paul Rose. Rose who fished at Bembridge returned a mixed bag totalling 44lb 5oz which included a Conger of 29lb 8oz adding a further £100 to his prize fund for the heaviest fish.
The best Bass on the night weighed in at 7lb 9-1/2oz went to Antony Gulliver who received a Rod donated by Scotties tackle. The best specimen prize of £100 was shared by Steve Probert and Lee Chilcot, both with Dogfish of 2lb 2-1/2oz. Six juniors weighed in and all received prizes starting with Adam Gray winning £50 sponsored by the Volunteer pub Ventnor. Aiden Aisher received a rod and reel from Stuarts bait and tackle and Jamie Ash a tackle voucher from Target Traces.
Richard Smith took second place with 32lb 2-1/2oz and won the pairs prize donated by Ventnor Brewery with Bill Barnaby. Third place went to Shaun Graham with 27lb 13-1/2oz and Jason Phillips was fourth with 25lb 1-1/2oz. The organisers also wish to thank Ventnor football club and the Veg lady at Juicy Apple wholesale and the many individuals who donated prizes.
Well done to everyone involved – it was a very wet and windy weekend.
