Just before the V-Bay Festival took place, word on the street in Ventnor was that the former bus station on Pier Street was about to be demolished.
It was said that the planned demolition had been postponed for the V-Bay Festival, so there would be somewhere to hold activities should the weather turn against them (which happened briefly on Saturday).
When we heard about the demolition, we got in touch with the agents for the site for find out more.
Planning permission extended
They confirmed today that an extension to their previous planning permission (TCP/04100/D, P/00448/07) had just been informally approved by the Planning Department and that they would start on the site in the next few months.
Tim Gardiner told VB, “The site has just had the planning permission and conservation permissions extended (TCP/04100/G, P/01072/10), in order to give the client the time needed to start the new construction.
“It is still early days and we are working out the logistics of starting on site. A time frame for the works has not yet been set out, however we hope to start on site over the coming months.”
Tim later confirmed that the demolition is certainly not imminent and that any demolition would coincide with the start of building to ensure Pier Street is not left with a gaping hole.
We hope this news will allay any fears for those concerned.
