Last Saturday, the Masonic Hall in Ventnor was the venue for the Ventnor carnival queens and princesses selection day.
The hall was bursting at the seams as 16 girls aged between eight and fourteen put themselves forward for the honoured role of being one of the Ventnor carnival queens or princesses.
Freda MacKenzie and Claire and Eric Critchison had the unenviable task of choosing who should represent Ventnor during carnival season and found the choice so hard that at one point, the reportedly suggested to build a bigger float and have all the girls involved.
However, that was not to be and three from the junior and senior categories were chosen.
Congratulations to Jasmin Parsons, Jemima Bryant and Emily Aldridge-Snell who were chosen as the junior Queen and Princesses and Maddy Snellen, Chloe Evans and Amy Kettell as the senior Queens and Princesses. Lacey Gammage was selected as reserve.
We hear that their first function is on Friday 8th May at the Winter Gardens where they compete with the Queens and Princesses from across the Island for the coveted title of “Queen of Queens”. Goof luck girls!
