VENTNOR BACK TO WINNING WAYS
Ventnor’s second team bounced back from the previous weekend’s defeat at Burridge to record an emphatic eight wicket win over Portsmouth in their Hampshire League clash at Steephill on Saturday.
Mark Woodhouse invited the visitors to bat first on winning the toss and saw his bowlers make regular in-roads as Hugh Calloway (3-18) and Adam Hose (3-54) restricted Portsmouth to 157-9 from their 45 overs.
Ventnor’s opening pair of Billy Clarke (12) and Richard Wilson (27) provided a solid base before the returning Ben Woodhouse (46 not out) and Adam Hose (61 not out) led their side to victory with ten overs remaining. Hose’s knock came from just 38 balls and included five fours and four sixes.
The side travel to Division 2 leaders Hook and Newnham Basics II on Saturday.
FIRST TEAM TAKE ON TITLE CHALLENGERS
Top of the table Ventnor, whose Southern League fixture at New Milton was a victim of the weather, return to action on Saturday when they take on second placed Hook and Newnham Basics at Newclose.
THIRD TEAM DEFEAT BEMBRIDGE
Twelve year old Ross Whyte produced excellent figures of 3-3 as Ventnor’s third team defeated Bembridge by eight wickets in the Harwood’s League on Saturday. The home side managed just 68 batting first, with Marcus Toms (3-10) and David Pratt (2-12) also among the wickets.
The visitors polished off the meagre target inside 16 overs, Jack Nicoleau (27) and skipper Mark Price (20 not out) top scoring.
