Cricket BallMcConchie Century Leads Ventnor To Victory
A second Southern Electric Premier League century of the season from Cole McConchie proved decisive as Ventnor defeated division two strugglers, Burridge, by 97 runs at Botley Road on Saturday.

The 19 year old New Zealander batted superbly to crack twelve fours and a six in a fine knock of 117 which built on the earlier work of Adam Hose (48) and Henry Bartlett (19).

The late innings momentum was provided by Mark Fletcher who continued his recent rich vein of form to hammer seven fours and two sixes in a 25 ball 54 not out as the visitors totalled 272-5 from their 50 overs.

The home team’s response was dented by Roger Miller’s initial spell of 2-27 and when Hose had former Hampshire man Derek Kenway caught by McConchie for only 12 with only 45 runs on the board, the writing was on the wall. Only Ollie Knight with 28 offered any resistance as Bartlett with 2-33 and McConchie (2-31) helped dismiss Burridge for 175.

Portsmouth are the visitors to Newclose on Saturday.

Hampshire League win for Ventnor
An excellent all-round display from Ventnor’s second team saw them defeat New Milton II by 76 runs in Saturday’s Hampshire League division two clash at Steephill.

Batting first, consistent scoring down the order enabled the home side to reach 258-8 from 45 overs with Adam Wilson (46), Hugh Calloway (39) and Arshad Ashraf (41) the leading contributors.

The visitors never remotely looked likely to threaten such a total and closed their innings on 182-8, Rob Snell taking 3-38 and teenager Tom Groves returning 1-16 from seven tight overs.

Ventnor travel to Burridge II on Saturday.

Third team defeated at Godshill
Godshill defeated Ventnor’s third team by 26 runs in the Harwoods League on Saturday.

Jon Turner hit 60 in the home team’s score of 210-8 with Jack Clutterbuck (2-52) and Gary Cooper (2-32) amongst the wickets for the visitors.

Ventnor’s reply was again dominated by Mark Price with 62, and although the skipper received decent support from Joby Wells (33), Alistair Cotton (27) and Marcus Toms (28 not out), the innings closed on 184-6.

Jemildar wrecks Ventnor Cup bid
Portsmouth’s Farshan Jemildar produced an extraordinary innings to dump Ventnor out of the Southern Electric Twenty20 Cup at Steephill on Sunday.

In a match played in drizzle or heavier spells of rain throughout, the talented left hander smashed 76 off just 39 deliveries to power his side to a seven wicket victory with four overs remaining.

Neil Westhorpe had earlier helped Ventnor to reach a challenging 188-7, the left hander cracking 76 with Mark Fletcher again providing the late innings impetus with 58.

IW Senior Cup
Ventnor progressed to the next round of the IW Senior Cup after a seven wicket win over Shanklin on Sunday.

Cole McConchie hit his second century of the weekend (107 not out) as Ventnor successfully chased the visitors total of 202-7, Andy White 54, and Danny Bishop, 43 top scoring.
