Ventnor’s town Mayor, Cllr Stephen Cockett, has thanked volunteers, participants and all those who popped along to the “hugely successful Ventnor Day”.
This year the event was held across Ventnor Park and the Putting Green, providing a fantastic green space, with plenty of shade (which was needed) for visitors to the event.
Perfect weather
Despite the misty start to the day, the sun soon burnt through the grey clouds and by the time midday arrived, blue skies had emerged and Ventnor was treated to a very hot and sunny afternoon.
The event was buzzing with activity as hundreds of people wandered through the park finding out more about what the scores of community organisations had to offer, as well as supporting local artists and sellers who had set up stalls for the afternoon.
Your top three priorities
The town council used the event as an information gathering exercise, asking residents to share their top three priorities for the town.
These ranged from a focus on wildlife and green spaces, to providing local jobs and youth services.
The town council will be collating the responses and we’ll let you know once their results are out.
Cockett: A huge thank you
Posting a note to the Ventnor Noticeboard over the weekend, Mayor Cockett said,
“I want to say a huge thank you to the organisers (Tony McCarthy ).
“At the town council tent we had a number of interesting enquiries and suggestions about matters around the town.
“Please don’t hesitate to email us with these things, or pop in and see us at the monthly surgery (Salisbury Gardens first Wednesday of the month).
“Wishing you all a great time for the remainder of the summer.”
