Thanks to Beryl for sharing news of this valuable group and forthcoming meeting. Ed
A small group of diabetics living in the Ventnor areas met in December and volunteered to form a committee to further promote a support group for diabetics, their families and carers in Ventnor and the surrounding areas, including Chale, Rookley, Godshill.
The Ventnor Diabetes Support Group has been formally organised and with help from invited various health professionals in the medical field, emotional, educational and social support will be offered at regular meetings to be held at the Ventnor Baptist Church, Pier St, Ventnor.
7,000 diabetics on the Isle of Wight
There are almost 7,000 diabetics on the Isle of Wight, unfortunately many more go undiagnosed and do not benefit from all the help that is available and sadly suffer diabetic health consequences that could have been avoided.
Every diabetic experiences a multitude of different emotions, fears, confusion and invariably has many questions. “What do I do?, “Just what can I eat”?, “How will I cope”?, and “What is this diabetes thing anyway?”.
First meeting in March
Ventnor Diabetes Support Group’s first meeting will be held at the Ventnor Baptist Church, on Wednesday, March 14th 7pm.
Everyone who is interested, diabetic or not, are cordially invited to attend.
“Living with Diabetes” will be the topic presented by Diabetic Specialist Nurse, Di Hogan and there will be an opportunity for questions and a general social exchange of information between those who attend.
Volunteers needed
More committee members are needed, and volunteers to generally help with the purpose of helping themselves and other diabetics, family members and carers. Meetings are free and there are no membership dues.
