Ventnor Diabetes Support Group, organised by volunteers, was launched on 14th April at the Ventnor Baptist Church and was very well attended by diabetics, including family members from Ventnor and surround towns and villages.
A very informative presentation was given by Di Hogan, specialist diabetic nurse, accompanied by many questions, proving there is a lot of misinformation generally about diabetes for both diabetics and their non diabetic family members.
Support for support group
There was an opportunity for attendees to chat during a refreshment break, followed by a raffle and more questions.
It was overwhelmingly agreed that a local support group is needed and the call for volunteers and helpers was heard. Several members have since met to help organize and support the future success of the support group.
Date of next meeting
The next meeting will be on Wednesday, 9th May at 7pm at the Ventnor Baptist Church.
The guest speaker will be Mr. Rob Gilkes, Senior Territory Manager for Bayer Diabetes Care.
An interesting and well attended evening is expected as Mr. Gilkes will speak, and provide promotional items to give away to registered members. Refreshments will be served.
Family members of diabetics and non diabetics are welcome to attend. Donations and raffle prizes are welcome and appreciated.
