Ventnor East By-Election Announced

With the general election out of the way (for the moment), a number of local elections will soon be upon us.

Ventnor East By-Election AnnouncedVentnor East
Following the recent resignation of Joan Garlick as town councillor for Ventnor East, the Returning Officer has confirmed to VB that a by-election will take place on Thursday 24th June.

Those wishing to stand must get their nomination forms into the Returning Officer at the Isle of Wight Council by 27th May.

You can pick up a nomination form from either the Ventnor Town Clerk, David Bartlett or the Returning Officer at County Hall.

At Monday night’s Ventnor Town Council meeting Cllr Brian Lucas also gave his resignation. He told VB that he felt conscious that in resigning he would be letting down those who voted him in, but felt his time would be better utilised with other voluntary organisations in the town.

Newport and Ryde
Later this month, the Newport and Ryde elections also take place.

As we previously reported, three of the wards were uncontested, but the electorate will be called to the polling stations for Carisbrooke, Newport Central, Newport North and South on 27th May.

On the same day, elections for Ryde South and Ryde West wards also take place.

“for at least the short term” = “I’m retiring soon”

More family silver sold, then.

On casually scanning this article and spotting the phrases ‘the council’, ‘public toilets’ and ‘ access to the organ’ I mistakenly assumed it was about Cllr David Whittaker.

Having been one of the last people to play at the Theatre, I very much doubt anybody will ever perform there again until at least twice the amount quoted here being spent on it..and it has remained empty for a couple of years since then
