Anyone living or visiting Ventnor over the last nine months will have been aware of the public realm refurbishment taking place on the Eastern Esplanade.
Over the winter the road has been re-aligned, new super loos built, new walls and railings added and the whole area resurfaced.
We’re sure that everyone will agree what brilliant job the council have done, and next week you’ll have a chance to pat the backs of those involved, as the refurbishment works are officially unveiled.
We popped down for a quick gander after the Town Council meeting last night and were very impressed with what we saw.
Many will remember that Ventnor was one of the few towns on the Wight chosen for swanky new eco-loos which are powered by a water turbine – making use of the water that comes down the cascade.
In addition to all the other new items mentioned, just left of the toilets you’ll find a new shower area. A great addition that we’re sure will be welcomed by beach and paddling pool users.
A new pool has been added at the bottom of the cascade waterfall and the bridge renovated allowing even more of those sitting-on-the-bridge classic shots to be taken by holiday makers for years to come.
It’s also brill to hear that the Victorian water fountain has also been put back into use (although there is still a need to sort out the drainage).
It has been frustrating for some that the works were not completed before the May bank holiday, but despite the setbacks, we reckon a great job has been achieved and the area will soon be thoroughly enjoyed by all.
