Tired of Christmas shopping? Why not forget all about it for a few hours and escape to New York!
Following the success of our first afternoon screening in October, we have decided to schedule another matinée performance, this time of the critically acclaimed ‘A Late Quartet’, starring Christopher Walken, Catherine Keener and Philip Seymour Hoffman.
Our first afternoon showing saw many new faces taking advantage of a quality film in a comfortable local venue and we hope to welcome many more this time.
When the beloved cellist of a world-famous string quartet receives a life changing diagnosis, the group’s future suddenly hangs in the balance; suppressed emotions, competing egos, and uncontrollable passions threaten to derail years of friendship and collaboration.
About to play their 25th anniversary performance of Beethoven’s Opus 131 String Quartet No 14 in C Sharp Minor, quite possibly their last, only their intimate bond and the power of music can preserve their legacy. The film beautifully captures the contrast between the harsh cold of the snow-laden city streets and the warm interiors of the players’ homes, the Metropolitan Museum, Sotheby’s and the Frick Collection.
Two screenings
We will be showing ‘A Late Quartet’ at both 3pm and 7pm on Tuesday 10th December at Ventnor Arts Club.
As always, Ventnor Film Society films are open to everyone; there is no need to be a member of the Arts Club to attend. Entrance is £5 on the door but booking is advisable.
The bar will be available for coffees, drinks and snacks before and after the film so why not get a few friends together for a midweek treat!
