Thanks to Helen for sharing details of the forthcoming Ventnor Music for Fun Festival. We’re sure there are many of you keen to take part. Ed
Tune up, sing up and enjoy yourselves at this year’s Ventnor Music for Fun Festival!
For the first time, on Wednesday 27th February the festival is organising a primary schools choir workshop day at the new St. Francis school in Upper Ventnor, then the main festival will take place on Thursday and Friday 28th February and 1st March at St Catherine’s Church in Ventnor.
Ten primary schools join massed choirs
The smart new venue will host up to 250 singers and ten primary schools to have a fun day learning three songs for massed choirs with St. Francis’ music coordinator, Hannah Larkin.
They will then have a chance to perform them at the end of the day and each choir has been asked to prepare their own song in a different language. The idea of the workshop is to broaden the impact of the festival in encouraging enjoyment of getting together to make music!
Celebrating the pleasure of music-making
Building on the success of the past few years, St. Catherine’s will be buzzing with folk, young and old, taking part in this festival, celebrating and enjoying the pleasure of music-making.
Classes are designed to appeal to all music-makers, from primary school ensembles to mature beginners, from community choirs to composers/performers. Whether you’re an instrumental soloist or part of a group you will find a class to suit.
Competitive and non-competitive classes
There are non-competitive classes as well as trophies, and there is a £50 ‘Best in Festival’ prize generously donated by the Rotary Club and several other music store vouchers (from Rotary and individual donors) as prizes too.
This friendly festival is renowned for the adjudicators, specially chosen to be encouraging, energetic and highly experienced. This year we are delighted to welcome Suzanne Higgins as our adjudicator. Suzanne is an enthusiastic and experienced musician, who is passionate about music education, is involved in many ongoing music education projects with people of all ages, and is a professional singer. There will also be an opportunity to sing with Suzanne in a workshop open to all on Thursday evening!
