Ventnor Youth & Community Centre: Open Evening

If you’ve ever wondered what goes on behind the doors of the Youth and Community Centre in Victoria Street, then next Thursday is your chance to find out.

On Thursday 28th February a two part open-evening is being held at the centre when visitors will be welcome to look around.

The purpose of the first part of the open evening is to showcase the facilities available for hire to local businesses and community groups.

The Crab and Lobster staff headed by Jackie are providing refreshments for the first part of the evening from 5pm to 6.30pm. For anyone who would like to attend this session, it would be helpful to have advance notice for catering purposes, so please ring 852566 or email vycc(at)iow(dot)gov(dot)uk.

The second part of the evening is for teenagers and parents to view the premises and get a flavour of what is on offer at the Ventnor Youth Centre. Doors are open from 7 till 9pm, and there will be examples of what is available down there.

* Our music room is well stocked and we’ve just taken delivery of equipment which will improve our recording facilities. With well qualified music staff on our team, rehearsal, support and recording are all available. Bands using our rehearsal space have played the festival. Their rent helps with the maintenance and upgrade of equipment.

* The young people have just been successful (thanks to a bit of help) in receiving a grant to buy digital DJ’ing equipment, which will be used loads, given additional funding to pay a DJ tutor.

* We also have a good sports hall (not huge but good) where we offer trampolining once a week on a drop in basis (currently on a Tuesday). Having just got new equipment in, we now have the scope to have two trampolines out, with a mini tramp too.

* We are always looking for ways of enriching the lives of young people by offering a greater range of activities for them to take part in. We have a lovely volunteer who comes in and gives her time and expertise in nail art, which is great. If you have a skill to offer (short stints are fine), we would be happy to hear from you (CRB checks are carried out).

* We would like to offer dance too”¦”¦and circus skills.

* Come and have a look / listen.

Thanks to the Crab and Lobster staff and to Knight and Norris butchers on the High Street for supporting us.
