At the end of last week, folk group ‘Seize the Day’ made their way down to the Vestas Sit-in to show their support for the workers who, in order to raise awareness of the 600 job losses, have taken occupation of the offices of the wind turbine blade makers in Newport.
In a matter of just a few hours, the band members wrote a song about the ‘Boys on the Balcony’ and performed this outside the sit-in on Tuesday night.
It went down a storm, not surprising really, seeing as Leader of the Green Party and Island MEP Caroline Lucas describes them as “Folk-rock with a radical edge”.
Boys on the Balcony was given a repeat performance the next morning outside the court on Wednesday morning to slightly larger audience (some media have reported around 500 people).
The band were very keen to find a recording studio on the Island to lay the track down in the hope that it might be able to raise awareness for the campaign.
VB is fortunate enough to know a number of people with recording studios on the Island, so were able to quickly put the band in touch with Rick Stanbridge (he of Chancers, Apple Beatles and Electric Ladyland fame to name but a few) who has a recording studio down in Sandown.
The band went down today, the track was recorded and can now be heard on MySpace.
It can be downloaded for free, so spread the word.
