Newspapers and Websites across the globe paid tribute to an Isle of Wight resident who sadly passed away last week.
Former British cinematographer, Gilbert (Gil) Taylor had his wife and family by his side as he passed away, aged 99, on Friday (23rd August).
Gil had an incredible career spanning forty years. He was Director of Photography on almost 60 films, including classics such as A Hard Day’s Night, Dr Strangelove, The Omen, Star Wars and Flash Gordon. According to The Independent, he also served as a Royal Air Force cameraman in the Second World War, documenting damage caused by British bombing raids.
Born in Bushey Heath in Hertfordshire in 1914, Gil worked his way up from camera assistant to iconic cinematographer.
Our thoughts are with Gil’s family and friends.
