Great news for Newport and anyone using the Victoria Road Amenity Area.
Newport Parish Council tell us that they’ve just received a rather tidy cheque for the sum of £1,110.
The Big Lottery Fund are the benefactors and have contributed the cash to go towards enhancing the area.
Along with a generous donation of £800 from Newport Parish Council and £250 from the Fairlee Victoria Road Residents Association, it’s hoped the funds will be able to provide seating, a picnic table and a litter bin for the remains of the picnics.
At least 300 residents, young and old, as well as visitors will be able to enjoy the improvements.
Vast improvements for all to enjoy
Mary Craven who was lead parish councillor for the project said: “I am delighted that we have succeeded with the bid. The funding will allow this green space to be enhanced for the benefit of the local community”
Peter Whiteman, the Chairman of the Residents Association, pictured here receiving the cheque is also a parish councillor. He said “This will make a vast improvement to our amenity area and will benefit all age groups; it will turn an open green space into an area for the community to enjoy”.
