Volunteer coaches needed for life-changing literacy support as Read Easy expands to the Isle of Wight

Read Easy is a charity that provides free, confidential one-to-one help for adults (known as Readers) who struggle with reading.

Read Easy Southampton are looking to set-up a small group in Ryde, with a view to expanding the service across the Island.

We need your help!
We are looking for volunteers from the Ryde area to join the team and take on specific roles including Literacy Specialist, Fundraiser, Volunteer Recruiter, and we are particularly interested to hear from anybody who would like to be a Coach.

Coaches don’t need any special qualifications and receive full training over Zoom.

Meet the reader twice a week
They are introduced to their Reader by a Coordinator and then meet with them for 30 minutes, twice a week, to provide one-to-one help using a phonics-based teaching programme.

This is in a safe space such as a library and they receive ongoing support from their Coordinator.

Could potentially change someone’s life
If you can spare just 1-2 hours per week to potentially change the life of a person on the Island, we’d love to hear from you. We already have some amazing coaches in Southampton who are making a real difference.

Lucy has been coaching for over a year and shared her thoughts,

“I knew I wanted to try a new challenge and becoming a coach has been fantastic – I’m doing something that is making a real difference. I can honestly say it’s one of the best things I’ve ever done.”

Need help with reading?
We are also looking for people in Ryde who may need our help. Maybe you have a friend, relative or colleague who has struggled with reading for a long time and could benefit from one-to-one support?

Are you part of an organisation that could refer Readers to us? In Southampton we are currently helping 49 adults to feel more confident about reading and we want the same success for the Island.

Information session
To find out more, please join us at our information session at Ryde Library on Thursday 27 April, from 2pm to 4.30pm.

You will have the opportunity to meet members of the team, find out more about the roles available, browse the manuals and reading books and we are happy to answer any questions you may have.

See the Website for more information and how to donate.
