Here’s something that should tick a few boxes for some on the Island.
We read today that when Waitrose open their East Cowes store in October, they aim for it to be fully powered through an onsite biomass plant.
An article in Green Wise Business reports that the supermarket chain have submitted an application to the Isle of Wight planning department to turn an electricity sub-station into a biomass plant.
Waitrose’s ambitions for the store to be fully powered by biomass will make the Island store the first of theirs in the UK to do so and and will be powered by wood chip from managed forests on the Island.
If that doesn’t tick enough boxes, it’s anticipated that there will be sufficient energy to also heat developments in the surrounding area.
