Warriors aiming to tame invading Suffolk Tigers

Bryn shares this update from Wightlink Warriors. Ed

After a well earned break last week following a hectic spell that saw them race three matches in five days, the Wightlink Warriors return to National Trophy track action at the Andrew Younie Stadium, Smallbrook on Thursday, start time 7pm.

Following on from their emphatic win over Stoke the week before last, our Warriors will be looking to deal with the ambush the visiting Mildenhall Fen Tigers will no doubt be keen to set up upon their arrival from Suffolk and to gain revenge for the defeat they inflicted upon us in the corresponding fixture last month at West Row in the American airbase dominated town.

Team updates
Team news is that we are currently awaiting an update as to whether the knee injury suffered by Warriors’ No.1 Benji Compton in the home clash with Stoke has healed sufficiently for him Capt James and supervisorto be able to return to the side whilst our opponents are seeking a replacement for one of their two reserves, Robert Parker, who is currently in hospital recovering from pneumonia.

They have also recently added Chris Widman, son of our co-promoter Martin, to their squad who we know can pile up the points so we’ll on our guard but expect to win the match especially with our fans roaring us on in similar fashion as they did a fortnight ago.

MP’s support
One new voice to be added to that support is the Island’s MP since 2001 Andrew Turner who’ll be in attendance to see for himself both Wightlink Warriors in action and the tremendous amount of work that Messrs Bishop and Widman and others have put into re-establishing our club as an integral part of the Isle of Wight community.

Thursday’s sponsor
So it’s fitting that Thursday’s meeting is being sponsored by Team Warrior, the group of volunteers who carried out so much work to enable our stadium and race track to be ready in time for the start of the season
