We were warned about torrential rain and it certainly came this afternoon in Ventnor.
The manhole cover on Ventnor Cascade (Shore Road) which leads down to the seafront was lifted up once again from the heavy flow of water through the drains under the road.
Readers will remember that it was just over a year ago that very heavy rain lifted the 50kg manhole cover, resulting in the road having to be closed for sometime as Southern Water repaired the drains.
The surge of water today (Wednesday) was just too much for the manhole cover, as you can see from the video further below.
The water also overwhelmed the paddling pool.
The video below gives you an idea of just how fast the water was flowing.
Our thanks to Steve Jones for sharing this video shot from the bottom of the cascade – a bit earlier than when we arrived (around 5.30pm-ish).
