Following the release of yesterday’s latest Ofsted annual report, from which members of the public can compare local authorities against each other, we wrote to the Isle of Wight council asking for their response to the new data.
Steve Beynon, Isle of Wight Council chief executive said; “While we are placed higher than our neighbours in Southampton, Portsmouth and Bournemouth, there is clearly still work to be done to improve educational standards.”
“Ofsted inspections are now much less forgiving”
He went on to say, “Anyone involved in education including headteachers and governing bodies know that Ofsted inspections are now much less forgiving under recently introduced changes to the way inspections are carried out.
“Whatever the position in national tables, schools and indeed the council should always be working to achieve better results. We want to be amongst the best in the country whether it be Ofsted inspections, GCSE or A-Level results, and will continue to work closely with schools to achieve this goal.”
