Unfortunately, due to soft ground conditions following the weeks of wet weather, the IW Motor Show cannot be staged at the IW Steam Railway this weekend.
On Friday 6 July representatives of both the Isle of Wight Motor Traders and Steam Railway met on site to consider the Isle of Wight Motor Show, scheduled for Saturday 14 July and Sunday 15 July.
The decision was not difficult
At the time the Steam Railway’s Show Field was in good order but very soft and would seriously suffer should any heavy vehicles, mobile showrooms and exhibitor stands venture onto the grass, potentially creating muddy and unpleasant conditions for motor traders and visitors.
The forecast is for further rain and showers over the coming days.
An alternative offer was that the Motor Show be held on the tarmac section of the Steam Railway car park, but the space needed to accommodate the large mobile showrooms and vast selection of cars was not sufficient.
Brickfields Horse Country provide alternative venue
“Rather than cancel the event, the Isle of Wight Steam Railway are very pleased an alternative venue has been secured this year with our good friends at Brickfields Horse Country,” said Peter Vail, General Manager, Isle of Wight Steam Railway.
“Indeed, the Railway has committed to open up the Havenstreet Station site this weekend at no charge to our visitors, although normal fares to travel on the trains apply. This way, visitors have the same opportunity to visit the Steam Railway and Island Motor Show, albeit on two sites.”
