Organisers of the Cowes Cardboard Boat Race are looking for teams to take part in this year’s race.
After a successful 2014 race, with 13 teams taking part, the organisers are hoping for more than 20 boats to take part in 2015.
Where and when
The race takes place at 2.30pm on Cowes Week family day (9th August), starting and finishing from the Cowes RNLI slipway on the parade.
Tony Downs, organiser of the event said:
“We’re really excited about this year’s race, we hope it will be even bigger than last year.”
He continued:
“Last year was a lot of fun and we want to make it more exciting for 2015 and are looking for at least 20 people to take part.
“There’ll be a number of races between those competing, following that, all rules are removed for a game of ‘death and destruction’, to see who sinks first.”
The race is open to people of all ages, but boats must be made completely of cardboard. Only tape and glue are allowed to help aid buoyancy.

Can you volunteer?
The organisers are also looking for volunteers who would be happy to help marshall the area around the race – and to help direct people to where they need to be.
The £10 entry donation goes to UKSA and their #seachange campaign. The closing date is 24th July.
