Readers will remember seeing the notice from Wightlink yesterday advising of a one boat service on their passenger service between Ryde and Portsmouth would operate today (Thursday).
The company have informed us this morning that the reason for the change to service is the result of an incident yesterday during the high winds.
A spokesperson for Wightlink told OnTheWight,
“The Wightlink catamaran Wight Ryder II has been temporarily taken out of service following a minor incident at Portsmouth Harbour station on the morning of New Year’s Day.
“Strong winds and rough seas at high tide caused the vessel to touch one of the fenders on the pier. It caused slight damage to the bow a metre above the waterline.
“The sailing was the 09:47 from Ryde to Portsmouth with 47 passengers on board. No one was injured.”
