Anyone who took part in, or watched any of the Island carnivals last year, won’t help but have noticed the outstanding performance by the Wight Strollers Group.
You remember them, all dressed up as grannies rocking their little hearts away.
The Wight Strollers managed to pick up and whopping 16 cups during the Island carnival season.
As well as being dressed as grannies, the team also used zimmer frames as part of their performance.
Gifting zimmers to worthy causes
With the theme for this year’s carnival float changing, they obviously now have a large number of spare zimmer frames. What better to do they thought, than donate them to worthy causes.
Eleven of the zimmers are going to the St. Mary’s Hospital and nine to the Red Cross.
Nicola Steedman, a member of the Wight Strollers and Physiotherapy Assistant at St. Mary’s Hospital said, “Our aim is to have fun while entertaining the public and raising money for local charities, we had great fun doing the carnivals around the Island, and are now pleased they can be put to good use where they are much needed.”
Support latest production
The amateur dramatic group have been going for some 30 years now and raised an incredible £85,000 for local charities.
The Wight Strollers’ latest production (for their 30th Anniversary) is the pantomime, Dick Whittington on at Medina Theatre over the hald term holiday.
They tell us that proceeds from event will be split equally between St. Mary’s Hospital Radio, St George’s School and Medina House School.
Well done to all involved.
