Nick Simmons -Wightlink Islanders injury jinx strikes again before a wheel has been turned after skipper Nick Simmons reported yesterday evening that he has broken his wrist in an accident at work. Simmons will be on the sidelines for at least the opening six weeks of the season leaving the club with a headache.

Co-promoter Chris Hunt said, “Nick called to give me the bad news that he had slipped when unloading a bike at work and suffered the injury. We all obviously wish him a speedy recovery and will miss him on track for at least six weeks or so but look forward to his return when he is fit and ready.”

Supporters welcome to Press and Practice Day this weekend
Meanwhile Simmons will be present at the club’s Press and Practice Day this Saturday 24th March when supporters get a chance to see the rest of the side on track at Smallbrook.

The day starts off at 1.30pm with the press conference interviews, followed by press photos at 2.30pm with the team taking to the track from 3.00pm until 5.00pm. All supporters are welcome to attend free of charge.

Working out best option for club
“In the meantime we need to decide if we make a temporary signing, run with rider replacement or use guests to cover for Nick, we need to sit down and work out the best possible option available for us as a club,” concluded Hunt.

The 2012 Wightlink Islanders line up as follows (not in riding order): Nick Simmons, Paul Starke, Danny Warwick, Marc Owen, Ben Hopwood, Rikki Mullins, Gary Cottham.
