Wightlink was proud to sponsor the Royal Navy Parachute Display Team which landed on Ryde sands at the end of Armed Forces Day celebrations on Sunday 30th June.
Commander Dave Lee flew Wightlink’s flag as well as the White Ensign as they descended 6,000 feet to applause from the crowd. The ferry company also transported vital kit for the event including a Gazelle helicopter.
More than 10,000 people flocked to Ryde beach to watch the Red Arrows, walk on board a landing craft, listen to music from the Island’s Highland Pipes and Drums and songs from The Vintage Trio and find out more about life in the armed forces.
Wightlink Commercial Director, Phil Delaney, said,
“We were delighted to get involved with this very special day in Ryde and congratulate its hardworking organiser, Ian Dore.
“Wightlink has signed up to the Armed Forces Covenant, employs many ex-servicemen and women and offers discounts for travel to veterans and serving members of the armed forces through the Defence Discount Service. We are already looking forward to next year’s event.”
