Winter Gardens Management Committee: Agenda for 21st September

There should be some interesting discussions taking place at the Winter Gardens Management Committee (WGMC) meeting this coming Monday (21st).

Ventnor Festival 2010
The agenda shows that there will be three presentations from groups that have expressed an interest in running a festival in Ventnor during 2010.

Those who have attended previous meetings will know that the Winter Gardens has been provisionally booked by Ventnor resident Anthony Churchill during the weekend of the proposed Jazz Festival in April. It’ll be interesting to see whether his consortium are one of the groups presenting.

The WGMC will be discussing which proposal is the most appropriate at the end of the meeting when the press and public are excluded so unfortunately, we won’t get to here how they come to their decision.

Future of Winter Gardens
We are well aware of how passionate Cllr David George, the chairman of the WGMC, is about the venue being rescued from years of neglect.

He was recently joined by Ventnor East County, Cllr Chris Welsford, in a meeting with the Head of IWC Property Services and we’re hoping the discussion will bring some positive news for the future of the Winter Gardens.

The subject of whether ownership of the Winter Gardens should be transferred from IWC to that of a Community Interest Co will also be debated by the committee on Monday night.

Public Exclusion
The press and public are then expected to leave the meeting whilst whether a General Manager should be appointed.

We’re not quite sure why the exclusion is being imposed, but can only guess that it mean commercially sensitive information is being discussed.

We’ll update you on their decision once the notes are released.
