Police are appealing for witnesses after a collision involving a car at St. Mary’s Hospital in Newport on the Isle of Wight.
A red Peugeot 406 estate collided with the main entrance of the hospital between 8am and 8.20am on Saturday, March 26, 2011.
The collision caused several thousands of pounds in damage.
41 year old man bailed
A man, believed to the driver, was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and taken to Newport police station.
The 41-year-old man from Ryde, Isle of Wight was later bailed until May 5, 2011 pending further enquiries.
Investigating officer PC Paul Neill of the Isle of Wight’s Targeted Patrol teams (TPT) said: “Police responded to reports on Saturday morning that a car had collided with the main entrance at St. Mary’s Hospital. Thankfully there were no reports of injuries, but the collision could have had far more serious consequences as there were hospital staff, patients and visitors nearby.
“I’d like to thank hospital staff for all their assistance. Enquiries are continuing and we’re keen for any information from witnesses who saw the collision or a red Peugeot 406 estate being driven in the Newport area at around 8am on Saturday morning.
