Police seek driver who collided with hedge and damaged ornamental well

Police are appealing for witnesses to an incident in which a man drove a car into a garden hedge in Chale, Isle of Wight.

Overnight on Monday, November 7, a dark coloured estate car was seen to swerve and collide with a large section of hedge outside a cottage on Appleford Road.

As a result of the collision, an ornamental well in the cottage garden was damaged.

A passing tractor driver helped the driver of the car to remove the vehicle from the hedge, but the man then drove off from the scene without leaving any details.

Description of driver
The man was described as aged in his 20s, with dark longish hair, and wearing shorts and a dark t-shirt.

The car was described as a black estate car, possibly a Ford Focus.

Officers would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incident, or who can help identify the driver of the car involved.

PC Tim Campany said:

“We would like to identify the driver of this vehicle so we can speak to you about what happened.

“Officers would also like to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision, or can help identify the man involved.

“If anyone has seen a vehicle matching the description which has damage to the front of it, please contact police.”
