The Yar Bridge has been the only way in and out of Yarmouth recently due to long-term roadworks at Bouldnor.
Unfortunately for residents, visitors and all those using the Wightlink ferry, a fault in the Yar Bridge has left it stuck open, cutting Yarmouth off from the rest of the Island earlier this afternoon.
Earlier this afternoon Island Roads tweeted
The Yar bridge, Yarmouth is currently stuck open. Our contractors are on their way to resolve the issue. Please avoid the area.

This was swiftly followed with a tweet from Wightlink:
No traffic can get in or out of Yarmouth at the moment due to roadworks and a fault with the bridge. We will do our best to keep you updated

Closed roads have been re-opened
Island Roads have now announced they’ve temporarily re-opened Thorley Road to ease the congestion at Yarmouth.
The suggested diversion due to the Yar Bridge failure is Tennyson Road, Thorley Road and Wilmingham Lane. They advise to drive with caution.
Engineers are on their way to the bridge and hopefully it will be swiftly fixed.
Update: 3.40pm
Island Roads have just advised resident that “The Yar Bridge is now open to traffic. We will be re-instating the Yarmouth road closures in 15 minutes. Thank you for your patience.”
