We love good news stories and this just in from the Isle of Wight Council should send a warm glow around your hearts.
Last Tuesday after more than a year of planning and preparations over 60 young people in care, their carers and foster carers took part in a one off special performance of Jack and the Beanstalk.
Shanklin Theatre was the venue where 150 lucky members of the audience watched on as the adaptation of the old classic saw ‘Jack trying to obtain new qualifications and find work with help from characters from other well known pantos including Cinderella and Beauty and the Beast’.
The project was funded by the Big Lottery Fund Wellbeing Programme and Arts Council as part of the Creativity4Health Programme South East.
As well as performing in the panto, the young people and their carers were involved in the script writing and set design as well as creating all the props and costumes.
Cllr Dawn Cousins, Isle of Wight Council Cabinet Member responsible for Children said: “The Pantomime was a huge success and everyone involved should feel extremely proud of their achievements.
“The project was designed to encourage and enable young people, their carers, families and support workers to take part in arts and creative activities to help them get fit as well as improve their emotional health and wellbeing.”
