We live in a political world, some people choose to ignore what is going on around them, others strive to get involved and help make a difference.
So not surprising that the Isle of Wight Council are urging youngsters on the Island to learn more about the democratic process.
Local Democracy Week takes place next week between, kicking off on Monday and running through to Sunday 21st October.
The idea of the drive is to get young people involved in local politics and make them aware of the impact local government has on their lives.
During the week, there will be elections for a Youth MP for the Isle of Wight and all youngsters are encouraged to get involved.
I wonder how many young David Pughs there are out there!
During the week there will also be a debate on lowering the voting age to 16. The idea for the debate was suggested by the current Isle of Wight Youth Council – once we get more details of when this will take place, we’ll let you know.
The nomination periods for elections to the IOW Youth Council and for the Youth MP both run next week and the campaigning will start from 1 November to and run until 25 November. Voting take place the following day. [Image courtesy of Local Democracy Campaign]
