On Saturday (15th Dec) two prisoners tried to break out of the Albany site of the Isle of Wight prison, the Prison Service has confirmed. We understand that attempted prison breaks are relatively rare in the UK.
The Prison Service were keen to clarify to On The Wight that this was an attempt and therefore unsuccessful.
The Police are involved and are investigations are taking place.
The CP have run details of an anonymous call that they received, claiming the men were equipped with grappling hooks, gauntlets, weights, chisels, make-up, wigs and a first aid kit.
The Prison service were unable to confirm at this stage if the prisoners had received any help from outside the prison, but said, “Two prisoners from HMP Isle of Wight (Albany site) have been moved to more secure conditions after staff uncovered an escape attempt.”
More as and when we hear it.
