Welcome to St Lawrence - Undercliff Drive rebuilt road

Revealed: The letter where Island Roads threaten to block access to volunteer-rebuilt road on Undercliff Drive

As OnTheWight reported yesterday, a new road was last weekend built on Undercliff Drive by volunteers after they were fed up with a lack of practical action by Island Roads and the Isle of Wight council, following the landslip in February 2014.

The actions have been universally applauded by Islanders.

Threat to close road
Island Roads have responded to the news this morning by declaring the road unstable and threatening to close it.

Some (not all) residents in the previously landlocked area of Undercliff Drive received letters this morning from Kieron Blamey, the Geotechnical Project Manager for Island Roads.

Permanent barriers to restrict vehicles
The letter says the road was not built by Island Roads, nor did they give any authorisation for the road to be built, so they’ll be installing new permanent barriers to restrict vehicular access to the new road.

Threats of getting the police involved
Mr Blamey says Island Roads are reviewing the CCTV and have notified the police of ‘trespass’.

OnTheWight has heard whispers from inside County Hall of legal action being considered.

Views of householders not sought
OnTheWight believe the action from Island Roads is dressed up as being for the safety and security of those living there, who have been left high and dry for the last eight months.

If safety and security is the concern of Island Roads, it would seem reasonable to first contact the householders to get their views. To those OnTheWight has spoken to, there has been no contact from Island Roads to find out if their action is wanted or desired.

Elderly left without heating
The actions of Island Roads restricting the new vehicular access will directly deny elderly residents in the area being able to receive heating oil and wood supplies to get them through the winter.

The question that is unanswered – What will Island Roads, or the Isle of Wight council, do to get the heating oil and other winter fuels to these residents if they block vehicular access?

Are they going to leave them high, dry and now cold as well?

Residents have until 2pm to remove vehicles
Here’s the letter some residents received this morning. It says the residents have until 2pm to day to remove their vehicles from inside the landlocked area before Island Roads restrict vehicular access.

LOL! The image of “Alex Dick” being pursued by a gang of vengeful, sleep-deprived Mums with raging hormones and sore nipples will live with me!

Run and hide Alex!.

What a delightful little hat the baby is wearing in the picture.

Yes, the colour and design are rather appropriate or unfortunate, depending on what side of the Dyke you sit.

A possible use for all those A.T. at Carisbrooke cards from our MP’s office?

I’d also wager that on this site the Sciolist
would gather votes.

I would’ve thought by now the breast is best campaigners would have made him honorary life president, for getting the cause in to the national news.

This outcry isn’t about ‘breast is best’. There’s no competition between mums here. It’s about the right of a baby to be fed when he/she is hungry. About mums not having the pressure to bottle feed just because some strangers would rather not see natural feeding in a public place. Some may wish to criticise this debate as stifling ‘free speech’. In fact it is about counteracting… Read more »

When did he tell you this Vix? I haven’t seen any interview reporting his motivation?

Congratulations too, when did the breastfeeding mums appoint you spokeswoman, and are you still involved with the Green party or is this an additional responsibility?

I’m sorry, The Sciolist, that you come across on here as such a non constructive poster. It’s a shame.

Vix, please do not feed the trolls.

Can I suggest that it’s fair comment to pick up on the fact you claim to know someone’s motives, despite never having met them?

Can I suggest that you are talking out your backside? Its perfectly reasonable to ascertain someones motivation from what they say on the radio without ever having met them in person. Dyke was trying to stir the ratings, and in doing so showed himself up as being a sexist pig who thinks discrimination is OK. Are you a friend of his? You seem to be doing something… Read more »

You’re no Desmond Morris are you.

May I suggest you return to your zoological studies?

I would do… but alas ‘zoologist’ is simply a name to point out that people would do well not to feed the animals or trolls. Trolls? That would be you, Sciolist. Stop having an opinion on every subject known to man, stop being wrong most of the time, and stop yelling like an idiot when people tell you you are wrong, show you the evidence that you… Read more »
