RIB being towed

Cowes RNLI aids lone sailor as RIB takes on water near Beaulieu River

Cowes RNLI lifeboat went to the rescue of a man whose plan for a short sea trip suddenly ended, when his RIB took on water as a result of engine trouble on Thursday evening.

The lifeboat launched at 5pm to rendezvous with the RIB west of the Beaulieu River entrance, the lone sailor having planned to travel from Hamble to Beaulieu.

RIB’s own pump worked
Although the lifeboat took with them the station’s pump, the crew found that the RIB’s own pump had carried out the required water discharge.

Alongside tow to East Cowes
All that was left for the lifeboat to then do was carry out an alongside tow, eventually delivering the RIB to East Cowes Marina.

The lifeboat returned to station at 6.35pm.
