The 101 call service for non-emergency crime in Hampshire and on the Wight is due to be axed come February next year.
The service was set up in May last year and is being shut down despite the fact that more than 90% of those calling the number were “satisfied or very satisfied” with the service they received.
In fact, the call centre took more than 300,000 calls have been made to the 101 service and an amazing 96% said that they would use the service again and recommend it to friends and family.
Not surprisingly, the 101 Hampshire and Isle of Wight Partnership said it was “very disappointed” with the Home Office decision and the three months notice it has given.
Deputy Chief Constable Ian Readhead, of Hampshire Police, said: “101 has been a catalyst for more efficient working arrangements between Hampshire and Isle of Wight partners. There are a number of processes which will continue beyond the 101 project; these include more effective staff training, improved customer service, and efficient communication between Hampshire Constabulary and the fifteen local authorities.”
