OnTheWight have reported extensively over the years about Isle of Wight sailor, Leigh McMillan’s involvement in the Extreme Sailing Series. However, another Isle of Wight sailor is also taking part in the prestigious sailing series.
Isle of Wight sailor, Tom Buggy, will be competing onboard the wildcard team Vega Racing in the sixth Act of the 2016 Extreme Sailing Series. The event takes place from 22 – 25 September in the Madeira Islands, Portugal.
British multihull sailor
Tom Buggy (Headsail Trimmer for Vega Racing) is no stranger to the circuit, the British multihull sailor took the position of bowman with Italian team Lino Sonego Team Italia in the 2015 Series.
Buggy returns to the circuit onboard the American-flagged wildcard syndicate for the Madeira Islands Act.
The Series
Katherine Welch explains more about the series,
“The Extreme Sailing Series™ is the only truly global and annual sailing circuit in the world that this year visits eight iconic venues over three continents providing spectacular on water action.
“The Series is the original elite level ‘stadium-style’ racing circuit delivering high-performance action close to shore, giving spectators front row seats.
“This elite level stadium racing attracts some of the world’s very best sailors coming from up to 16 nationalities racing super-fast hydro-foiling GC32 catamarans on short courses, on a global circuit spanning the Middle East, Asia, Australia and Europe.”
Best of luck to all Isle of Wight sailors taking part.
